Abstract:

Correspondence received by David A. Mckinley when he was Consul General in San Francisco for the Hawaiian Islands. Includes letters from his father William, Sr. and brother his James, regarding the presidential candidacy of brother William, Jr. Letters from King Kalakaua mention his signing Hawaii's new constitution, the death of Prince Edward Keluahonui, requests for both custom inspection courtesies and consular attention for family members on route to England. There is also a request to forward a fossil tooth on to the Smithsonian Museum in order to obtain information. The letter from Queen Kapiolani refers briefly to Prince Jonah's health and school plans. The collection also contains an earlier document appointing W.B. Crandall the surgeon of 33rd Regiment of Colored Troops in 1864.
